I have found that many of my patients with allergies do much better if they can sleep in a room with purified air.  Some run the air purifier only while they are gone because they don't like the hum.  Others will keep it running on low all the time.

There is research that supports the use of air purifiers to prevent asthma.  Read more about a study of pediatric patients and the benefit they obtained by breathing purified air.

Air purifiers come in various capacities.  Some are able to purify the air of a 1700 sq foot home and others purify just a large room.  If money is tight,  I recommend buying one for just the bedroom and keeping pets out of the room, if you are allergic to pets.
